Angelic Layer

  • Angelic Layer Official Site (1234)
Just another "official site"? Well not quite, the Angelic Layer site by ADV Films has some good points that makes it well worth the visit. The design is nice, and there is plenty of information, with sections on news, characters, angels, and the anime episodes. However, what makes it stand out are the graphical goodies - wallpapers and a great selection of colourful, high quality images (very useful for making your own wallpapers!).
  • the Layer (1383)
A very comprehensive Angelic Layer site with a very nice design. With everything from multimedia to screen caps, merchandise to wallpapers, this site really does have everything. Of special note is the downloadable Angelic Layer game (although you will need a Gameboy Advance Emulator to play it).

Anime: Directors, Seiyu, Artists

  • Crystal Acids (464)
Okay, so maybe I may be stretching the definition of Seiyu by including a database dedicated to people who make DUBs, BUT have you often found yourself watching a dubbed anime and thinking: "Why does that voice sound familiar?" Well, not only does this site explain who voices what but also stacks and stacks of additional information on the release date and the production team as well It also has a great gateway image of certain anime characters on it's opening page ;)

  • The Parents Guide to Anime (609)
An unusual but surprisingly informative site where various anime titles are assessed within the parameters of parental concerns (So I guess that would cancel out everything done by Yoshiaki Kawajiri). Laughable perhaps but it actually has some very interesting views

I just had to put this here. One of the funniest sites I have ever seen (You can't do that to Totoro!).
  • F*ckin' Otaku (1205)
If you take yourself very seriously as an 'otaku' or don't like swearwords, then stay away from this site. For everyone else, this is a hilarious parody of everything otaku. Watch out for the cosplay photos, and don't forget to read reviews like 'Strawberry Bullsh*t' (I Me My! Strawberry Eggs). Another good laugh is the 'F*ckin' Anecdotes', tales of crazy otaku behaviour at conventions.

Anime: News

  • Akadot (532)

  • Moshi Moshi (524)
A great Australian anime news site, Moshi Moshi (the online version) specialises in keeping you up to date in all areas of Japanese pop culture, including anime, manga, culture, events, fandom, film and tv, food, games, music, technology, toys and weirdness. There are no flashy pictures but it is an excellent read, and updated very regularly - highly recommended.

Anime: Online Magazines

  • @anime! (653)
This is another good online anime magazine, and whilst it seemed to have disappeared recently it has been revived, with three new issues coming out recently. The design of the magazine is great, and whilst not as extensive as animefringe, @anime has features on anime, manga, conventions, opinions and fandom. Recently featured anime include .hack//SIGN, s-CRY-ed and Angelic Layer.
  • animefringe (705)
With a gorgeous layout and heaps of quality content, animefringe is my personal must-read online anime magazine. Best of all, like a real magazine an issue of animefringe is released every month, and to my knowledge they have never missed an issue since starting in January 2000.
  • Denkyu.com (427)
At five issues (as of early Feb '04) and going strong, Denkyu.com is one of the newer online anime magazines. However, they are without a doubt one of the best - issues are packed full of good reads, with plenty of anime & manga reviews as well as news, releases, and interesting articles on Japanese culture, recipes, games such as Final Fantasy X-2, holiday shopping guides and a monthly manga websert.

All for the battle against a new threat to this technologically advanced world. Viruses.
  • Megatokyo (1096)
Ok, the fact that Megatokyo is not produced in Japan may prevent purists from calling it a true manga, but don't let this stop you from checking it out - it is quite simply, IMHO, the best online manga I have ever had the pleasure of reading. With a beautiful Japanese/American drawing style and 3 new comics every week, I'm sure gamers and anime fans alike will get a laugh out of Piro and Largo's adventures in Japan.
  • Okashina Okashi (718)
Okashini Okashi, meaning Strange Candy, is an online manga best described by its authors: "With one FOOM, the lives of six strangers change forever! Tokyo Tower, catboys, girls in Sailor Fuku, shoujo romance, tentacle monsters, hammerspace, love hotels, idol singers, jello wrestling and much more!". Okashina Okashi is a hilarious manga that superbly parodies many anime and manga constructs and genres. This includes not only what the authors mention but much more, such as angsty bishounen, giant mecha, robot maids, and the power of cuteness. You absolutely have to read it for yourself!
  • URD Collaborative Manga (628)

The Anime Academy is based around the idea of an anime University - in the words of the creators "an institution of learning with the purpose of teaching its students the essentials of anime". There are some interesting articles, although the main reason for visiting would have to be the huge review database that they have created - the sheer number and consistent quality of the reviews is both impressive and useful.
  • Meta Anime Review (486)
The Meta Anime Review page is the page to go for if you're looking for an anime review. Why? Because it indexes reviews of anime from Anime Ai, Anime News Network, The Anime Critic, The Anime Review, The Anime Corner, and T.H.E.M. Anime Reviews, so that you can get them all in one place. It's a fantastic idea, and seems to be working really well - just look at the number of anime indexed!

The site itself says that Point Blank boasts anime reviews that are "concise, and to the point". However, it actually contains over 150 well thought-out reviews, accompanied by comprehensive guides to the main characters. • Storms End (506)
Another brillantly put together site dedicated to the excellent series Last Exile. A solid batch of information all arranged in an array of beautifully designed pages. Be warned however as the navigation system is kinda clumsy...
  • Vanship Soaring (859)
Being a relative new series, there aren't a lot of sites dedicated to Last Exile. But this would have to be the best: Comprehensive in content, this site has character bios, screenshots, episode summaries and much more besides.

  • Sakura Saku (841)
Sure there's no shortage of Love Hina sites on the Internet but I decided to post this one here. Why? Well to be honest, this site is a testament to the benefits of an excellent design. The graphics are superb and the layout is clean and organised. Worth a look!

  • Naruto Fan (535)
A website that claims to be the Number One stop for information on both for the anime and the manga? It's a big ask but this one certainly has the substance to back up the claim. You will be surprised by how much is contained within this corner of cyberspace!
  • Naruto Fever (572)
And if the other two sites aren't enough, there's always this gem, claiming to be the Alternative Naruto Fansite. This is particularly noteworthy for having some fun additions including Flash games and a Love Compatability Test (I got Sakura.... weird)
