Once again, the Anime Society is having a screening this Saturday the 13th of March. This screening will be running from 1pm-5:30pm at the Centenary Lecture Theatre, at the UTAS, Sandy Bay campus.
As usual, this screening costs $3 for non-members, but is free for Anime Society members (membership to the anime society is just $10). We will be selling food and drinks again, for people who are hungry.
This weekend we will be showing:
1:10pm-2:30pm: Lupin III: Green Vs Red (movie, 79 minutes)
[M rating]
When a Lupin impersonator is arrested for shoplifting in Tokyo, dozens of other copycats converge on the city to clear the name of Arsene Lupin III. The real Lupin is in town too, both to watch the show and to steal a mysterious item called the Ice Cube. But one of those impostors also has designs on the Cube, and he might just be good enough to beat the original at his own game.
2:40pm-3:30pm: The garden of Sinners (Kara no Kyoukai) (movie, 48 minutes)
[M rating]
Mikiya Kokuto finds himself intrigued by two things. The first is by Shiki Ryougi a beautiful, yet rather unsociable, girl and the other is the strange series of violent deaths that start occuring in his town. As he attempts to get closer to Shiki, he soon learns that the two are connected and that there are many supernatural forces at work which could very likely get him killed as well.
3:40pm-5:30pm: When the Seagulls Cry (Umineko no naku Koro ni) (TV series, episodes 1-4)
[M Rating]
Umineko no Naku Koro ni takes place in the year 1986, during the time frame of October 4 and October 5 on a secluded island named Rokkenjima (六軒島, Rokkenjima). The head of a wealthy family named Kinzo Ushiromiya, who lives on and owns Rokkenjima, is near death, and eight of his family members arrive on the island to discuss how Kinzo’s assets will be divided once he is dead. Also on the island are three family members who live there, five of Kinzo’s servants, and his personal physician. After the eight family members arrive, a typhoon traps them on the island and shortly after people start to get mysteriously murdered.

Welcome to our 2010 members!
Retro anime movie night! Saturday February 27.
Welcome to the Anime Society’s website! To start off the year, we will be having a movie marathon on Saturday 27th February.
We will be screening the movies Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Blood: The Last Vampire, and Spriggan.
This marathon will take place in the Centenary Lecture Theatre at the University of Tasmania, Sandy Bay Campus. We will be starting at 12:00pm, and will be wrapping up at 7:00pm. Food and drinks are available to buy on site if you are hungry.
This event is free for all Anime Society members, and $3 for all non-members. Not a member? To become a member of the Anime Society for 2010, it only costs $10.
The schedule for the screening is as follows:
12:20pm-1:10pm: Blood: The Last Vampire (50 minutes run length)
Teropterids are evil beasts which pose as humans and live only to drink human blood. Fortunately for the human world there are groups dedicated to destroying them. A brooding and mysterious girl named Saya is the best teropterid slayer there is, and now, in 1960’s Japan, she is sent to a U. S. army base which may be infested…
1:20pm-3:00pm: Ghost in the Shell (80 minutes run length)
In the year 2029, the barriers of our world have been broken down by the net and by cybernetics, but this brings new vulnerability to humans in the form of brain-hacking. When a highly-wanted hacker known as ‘The Puppetmaster’ begins involving them in politics, Section 9, a group of cybernetically enhanced cops, are called in to investigate and stop the Puppetmaster. The pursuit will call into question what makes a human and what is the Puppetmaster in a world where the distinction between human and machine is increasingly blurry.
3:10pm-4:40pm: Spriggan (90 minutes run length)
Deep in the Ararat Mountains of Turkey, a secret organization known as ARCAM has found what is believed to be Noah’s Ark. However, the U.S. Machine Corps., a rogue organization of the Pentagon, wants to take over the Ark as a means of global supremacy. Only a special ARCAM operative known as a Spriggan stands in their way. Japanese Spriggan Yu Ominae teams up with French Spriggan Jean-Jacques Mondo to combat members of the U.S. Machine Corps. led by Col. MacDougall – a genetically-enhanced boy with deadly psionic powers. However, they must act fast and stop MacDougall before he uses the Ark for his own agenda.
5:00pm-7:00pm: Akira (120 minutes run length)
In the year 2019, thirty-one years have passed since the outbreak of World War III. In Neo-Tokyo, all authority is waging a never-ending struggle against the underground that virtually rules the shattered city. A top-secret child with amazing powers of the minds breaks free from custody and accidentally gets a motorcycle gang involved in the project. The incident triggers psychic powers within one of the members, Tetsuo, and he is taken by the army and experimented on. His mind has been warped and is now on the path of war, exacting revenge on the society that once called him weak.
We are looking forward to you joining us at the screening! If you have any questions at all, please respond to this email.
